Marble nails with plastic wrap

A quick post for today – I’d love to show you my attempt at marble nails done with plastic wrap. This is the first time I tried the technique and I’m in two minds about it. On the one hand it’s a great way to do a simple nail art, on the other hand you need to be an abstract art lover to like such nail designs :)

With the technique nails should be done one by one. Here are 5 easy steps:

  1. Apply a white nail polish and wait for it to dry
  2. Drop a few drops of coral, mint and grey nail polishes on the nail randomly
  3. Quickly cover the nail with a piece of plastic wrap – the colors under the wrap will mix, creating the marble effect
  4. Carefully remove the wrap
  5. Apply a top coat

You can skip the first step if you are using well pigmented nail polishes (not neons or sheer pastels). I was using Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes in Coral Reef, Mint Sorbet and Wet Cement, and the white background really helped to make the colors look more prominent.

Plastic wrap marbling is a bit different from water marbling and from saran wrap. With water marble technique you’ll get smooth curved lines, with saran wrap you’ll get a similar but more detailed look. If you prefer dry marbling, you can mix colours between 2 pieces of plastic wrap :)

I cannot say I’m 100% content with the result (I think I’ll continue experimenting), but I liked the look enough to show you. Its biggest advantage is how simple it is, you can do all your nails in no time :)

Thank you for reading! See you soon xxx

Thank you Ina! I love the colors too, Coral Reef is so summer-y and Mint Sorbet is so tender :) I’ll do more posts with them :)

  2. Love the colors! Sort of looks like an exotic camouflage.

:)) yes, that’s what I thought – the design looked strange, but I felt like it was still ok to wear it!

I actually really like how this came out!! I’ve seen quite a few bloggers do this technique but they always end up looking very thick and muddled, yours looks almost like an abstract brust stroke design. Now that I’ve seen this executed well I think I’ll have to give it a try!

oh thank you Stacy! I’m so glad you liked my marble nail design :)) I put small drops of polish on my nails, maybe that’s why the final look turned out quite thin and the colors didn’t mixed too much into a muddy pattern :)
