Last days of spring! Lilac is in full bloom here in Saint Petersburg, and fills the air with fragrance. I thought I’ll share its beauty with you, as it matches perfectly today’s post hero – a purple glitter, that I used on my nail tips for this look:
As the title says, it’s Karen, a purple glitter from the Shimmer nail polish family :)
Let me be honest, I’m far from being a glitter girl. I enjoy all kinds of glitter on other nail polish blogs, but when it comes to painting my nails I prefer cremes. I have many reasons for that, but as we all know, one can get bored even with their most favourite things. When it happens to me, I often reach for sparkling shimmers and glitters :) Those magical bottles are a great source of inspiration and good mood!
Being a well mixed purple-golden-holo glitter, Karen is not an exception. Applied in 3 thin coats, it shines incredibly. I think it’s possible to get away even with 2 layers, if you make them a bit thicker.
I heard girls saying that Shimmer polishes look much better in real life than in pictures, and now I see it for myself. It wasn’t easy to take pics of the glitter, but my camera and I both tried hard to capture at least some of Karen’s beauty.
Here’s Shimmer’s Karen in 3 coats on a swatch stick (no top):
I wanted a light summer look, so I applied Karen only on my tips with just a few brush strokes. The polish is densely packed with glitter, and each time you dip the brush into the polish, you get plenty of glitter particles :)
Many of you have already seen Shimmer Karen on its own, so I decided to combine the glitter with a shade that is not that usual for a purple. The pastel yellow creme is a no name yellow whitened with a few drops of Sally Hansen White On. The polish applies terribly, but it works ok as a solid background color. I enjoyed wearing this combo of yellow and purple :)
A close up:
Shimmer Polish retails for $12 per a 15ml (0.5 oz) bottle, and can be purchased on Etsy here. The brand has an official website, so please, go and see that amazing glitter paradise – www.shimmyshimmer.com You will find lots of great swatches of Shimmer nail polishes there!
Thank you for reading! See you soon ;)
*The product was sent to me for review
These look really pretty.
I dont normally wear glitter either :/
Thank you! To me glitters are not for everyday routine, they work great for special occasions or when I need to cheer my self up, or to celebrate smth.. They add some special holiday touch to any manicure :)
You know how much I love Shimmer Polish :D Karen looks amazing in that glitter gradient! The yellow base balanced the purple glitter in a beautiful way!
PS: I love lilacs :D
Yes, I do! and I enjoy watching Shimmer swatches made by you ;)
Oh, I love the pastel yellow you crated, to me that’s the perfect pastel yellow….
The addition of glitter is very lovely too!
That yellow was too thick, so I decided to thin it with White On a little, and to whiten it a bit at the same time. I cannot say it helped much lol It’s still hard to apply it smoothly :) The end color reminds me a lot of my favorite Orly Lemonade..
Yellow in the base makes this look very appropriate for spring, even though the weather outside is not cooperating with us :D
Yes lol lets think of it as another way to conquer the bad weather :D
This is so gorgeous! :D
Thank you again!!!
I’m really glad you liked the swatches :)) and thank youuuu ;)
:) looks nice, now i want a purple glitter!!!

lilacs were florishing here a month ago, now is the time of roses and poppies ;)
oh poppies and roses will bloom here in july I think :) and yes, I know you are a glitter girl, perhaps even _the_ glitter girl being the owner of that fancy 18K golden gun :P I’m still hoping we’ll see it here one day ;)
Beautiful! I love how you combined these two polishes together, this looks great!
thank you Natalie :)
I’m not big on glitter either, but I think all the beautiful lilacs won me over! <3
