Shanghai Shimmer is one of my first OPI polishes. I still remember why I bought it, or better to say I remember that I bought it for no reason :) I wanted an OPI and since I had no idea what color to buy I chose this casual will-go-with-everything mauve shade.
Originally Shanghai Shimmer was one of 12 colors of the OPI Far East collection that was released ages ago, in 2000. Now the polish is in the OPI core collection.
I’d describe it as a rose/mauve shade with subtle green and gold shimmer. The polish can be sheer or opaque depending how many layers I put on, in the pics you can see Shanghai Shimmer in 3 thin layers (over a clear base) without a top coat.
Here I tried to capture the shimmer in the sun:
I know it’s an oldie, and the color itself is quite boring comparing to all those modern glitters and shimmers and sands and what not. I mainly did the swatches to add this shade to my online nail polish archive :) So let me not bore you even more and finish the post with one more pic of Shanghai Shimmer on my nails (daylight, cloudy sky)
Thank you for reading!
PS: No matter how old fashioned the color may look like, I managed to use 1/3 of the bottle already, and I’m sure I’ll wear it again :)
I don’t think it’s boring I would rather say sophisticated :)
It’s pink and it’s a shimmer, but to me it also looks as a nude.. an unusual nude I’d say :)
It’s a beautiful color for you, and amazing photos as always!
Thank you Maria! It wasn’t that easy to catch the shimmer properly. I’m a bit disappointed the green shimmering effects didn’t show up in the pics :( In rl it’s possible to see it under a certain angle in sunlight.. :)
I love dusty, warm pinks and will wear it forever:))
I’m glad you like the colour :) It’s good to know that I’m not alone in loving dusty rose shades :)
Where can I buy Shanghai Shimmer. It’s always been
My favorite color. Thanks, Linda
