There’s something about the fall that makes me want to wear brown and beige more often. Falling leaves, the chill in the air, the smell of cinnamon cookies and a big cup of hot chocolate. Oh yes, and pumpkins everywhere!
Two days ago I showed you my brown/ivory half moon nails, and today I’d love to share with you another brown manicure. This time it’s plain and simple — one color only: Chocolate Shake-speare by OPI:
This is an oldie. Chocolate Shake-speare was originally released with OPI British collection in the dim and distant year of 2003. I bought mine about 2 months ago, and I think it was once included in the OPI core collection. However, I couldn’t find it in the OPI official color chart, so the brown shade might have been discontinued already.
Chocolate Shake-speare is a lovely warm brown with subtle golden shimmer. On the picture you see 2 coats over Lumene Gloss & Care base (no top coat).
I wouldn’t wear it very often, this brown shimmer belongs to the group of polishes that I go to when I don’t know what color to choose and I want something simple and unnoticeable.
The polish is neutral and work-appropriate, perhaps a little on the boring side. So not to bore you with it-all-looks-the-same pictures of the polish, I decided to compare it with 2 more OPI brown nail polishes.
In the picture below L-R (daylight):
- OPI Wooden Shoe Like to Know?
- OPI Chocolate Shake-speare
- OPI You Don’t Know Jacques
- OPI Oh So Glam! (this one is an ivory shimmer)
Same company, but in the different order (2-3-4-1) and in the sun:
I hope it was a bit more interesting and informative than a regular nail polish swatch. As for the OPI Chocolate Shake-speare, I wore it for 2 days and it behaved decently.
Thank you for reading and see you soon, right? :)
It looks beautiful on you – and the colors on the swatch stick match the scarf/fabric completely!
yep, that was the idea :) it’s a scarf and I wore it with the polish.
the only thing i don’t like about OPI Shake-speare is that if I look closer I can see traces of brush strokes because of the shimmery/pearly texture. it’s not that obvious in rl, but still..
I must say that I don’t like this shade. I think I have only one brown that was frankened and almost empty. I don’t usually go for brown items at all, even in clothing. I don’t have a special reason like with greens that I don’t like them it’s like I don’t notice them in the stores.
I see :) I wear brown polishes, not as often as grey/dark/blue/pink/purple or teal colors, but I do have some items in my wardrobe to match browns with.
Now I’m curious about that frankened brown nail polish you mentioned, it must be something really beautiful and unique! I wonder what it looks like :)
I have it in this post http://lendoxia.blogspot.com/2011/03/spicy-chai-latte.html it’s not that special and my nails are really really short there and I don’t like how they looked.
Thanks for the link, I like the color :) It reminds me of CG Ingrid (which is a taupe-brown nail polish), and that one I’m looking for.
